Total Solar Eclipses -- History and Science

This August a rare, once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event will take place: a total Solar Eclipse - the first since 1979!  Although Elkhorn isn’t in an area that will see a 100% eclipse, we will still be able to enjoy the sun covered by about 88% of the moon, so it should still be very spectacular.
Join
educators Ed Sadler and  Frank Mills from Yerkes Observatory will give a fascinating talk on eclipses throughout human history, the science behind a total eclipse, and how best to observe one safely. We’ll also be giving out special eclipse-viewing glasses,   generously donated by a grant from the Space Science Institute’s National Center for Interactive Learning, for you to take with you. Then be sure to join us on the 21st to view the eclipse!
